Reluctantly Reporting That Baltimore Has Plans
Excerpt:This weekend, Baltimore has apparently decided to become a harbor festival, air show, ballpark, ghost story, brunch argument, and magic venue all at once. We did not approve the paperwork, but here we are.

Baltimore Has Borrowed the Navy, Apparently
There are quiet weekends in Baltimore. This is not one of them. From June 24 through June 30, SAIL250® Maryland & Air Show Baltimore brings tall ships, Navy and Coast Guard vessels, the Blue Angels, flyovers, waterfront festivals, STEM programming, living history, and enough patriotic weather-dependent scheduling to make a clipboard weep. The main weekend programming runs through the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Baltimore Peninsula, North Locust Point, and Martin State Airport, which is a polite way of saying, “good luck pretending you didn’t know something was happening.” (Visit Baltimore)
Friday, June 26 includes the official welcome ceremony at Harborplace Amphitheater at 10:30 AM, public ship visitation from 11 AM to 5 PM, air show practice from noon to 4 PM, and festivals at the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, and Baltimore Peninsula from 11 AM to 6 PM. Saturday and Sunday bring the full SAIL250® Maryland Air Show Baltimore from noon to 4 PM, more ship visitation, more waterfront festival activity, and the sort of crowd energy that makes a city feel like it has been shaken gently by a brass band. (Visit Baltimore)
There is also a fine historical grin hiding in all this. Fells Point was not merely a charming old port with cobblestones and seafood, though it performs that trick very well. The National Park Service notes that the British wanted Baltimore in 1814 partly because Fells Point was home port for many privateers who preyed on British merchant ships, and Baltimore privateers captured more than 500 British ships during the War of 1812. So, yes, while everyone admires tall ships this weekend, please remember that Baltimore once looked at the world’s largest navy and said, “Cute boats. We’ll take some.” (National Park Service)

Poe’s Magic Theatre This Weekend
Friday, June 26 at 8 PM: The Magic Showcase at Poe’s Magic Theatre. The best magicians in the Mid-Atlantic perform in the historic Lord Baltimore Hotel, which is either a perfectly reasonable sentence or the start of a Gothic lawsuit. Doors, close-up magic, cocktails nearby, and a room full of people hoping reality behaves badly. Friday, June 26 at 10 PM: Lord Baltimore Hotel Ghost Tours. Investigate one of America’s most haunted luxury hotels after the magic show, because apparently sleep was invented by cowards and people with sensible shoes. (Poe's Magic Theatre)https://www.poesmagic.com/event-details/lord-baltimore-hotel-ghost-tours-1-3
Saturday, June 27 at 8 PM: The Magic Showcase at Poe’s Magic Theatre returns, because one evening of impossible behavior would be efficient, and we cannot have that. (Poe's Magic Theatre)https://www.poesmagic.com/event-details/the-magic-showcase-at-poes-magic-theatre-2026-06-27-20-00
Saturday, June 27 at 10 PM: Lord Baltimore Hotel Ghost Tours. A late-night walk through hotel hauntings, odd history, and the sort of corridors that make skeptics suddenly very interested in checking behind them. At the Lord Baltimore Hotel
LB Skybar is open for the season, with Thursday through Saturday evening hours listed as 5 PM to 11 PM. Friday and Saturday are the practical targets here, unless your weekend begins on Thursday, in which case, congratulations, you are either retired, theatrical, or both. The Skybar is 21+, perched on the 19th floor, and has cocktails, light bites, and enough view to make downtown look like it is behaving. (Lord Baltimore Hotel)
LB Tavern remains the obvious pre-show landing place for dinner, cocktails, and the sacred ritual of arriving early enough not to make the evening feel like a hostage negotiation. The hotel lists LB Tavern as offering hand-crafted cocktails, local Baltimore craft beer, and lite fare and dinner menus. (Lord Baltimore Hotel)

Around Downtown Baltimore
Baltimore Brunch Festival takes over Power Plant Live! and the surrounding city block on Saturday, June 27 from 11 AM to 2 PM, with brunch creations, cocktails, live entertainment, DJs, and the dangerous social belief that breakfast food becomes nobler when served near noon. (Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore)https://www.waterfrontpartnership.org/events-calendar/baltimore-brunch-festival
The National Great Blacks In Wax Museum’s annual “Voices of History” Street Fair happens Saturday, June 27 from 11 AM to 6 PM at 1601 to 1603 East North Avenue, with arts, culture, wellness, community programming, and a history-rooted celebration connected to Juneteenth, Pinkster, and the museum’s anniversary. (Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore)https://www.waterfrontpartnership.org/events-calendar/the-national-great-blacks-in-wax-museums-annual-voices-of-history-street-fair-1
Charm City Pride & Power Night Market is Saturday, June 27 from 4:30 PM to 9 PM at 1616 Thames Street in Fells Point, with local vendors, art, handmade goods, food, drinks, zines, apparel, accessories, and a DJ set. Pride Month closing with local makers and waterfront mischief is not the worst way to spend a Saturday evening. (Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore)https://www.waterfrontpartnership.org/events-calendar/charm-city-pride-power-night-market
Downtown Outdoor Workouts with Merritt Clubs returns Saturday, June 27 from 10 AM to noon at Hopkins Plaza, the final session listed for the May 9 through June 27 run. This is for people who see a busy waterfront weekend and think, “Yes, but what if I also perspired with intent?” (Downtown Partnership of Baltimore)https://godowntownbaltimore.com/events/month/
Local Baltimore Magic History
On May 16, 1908, Harry Kellar and Howard Thurston gave their final engagement together at Ford’s Opera House in Baltimore. At the end, Kellar brought Thurston forward and passed him the wand, making Baltimore the stage for one of American magic’s great public transfers of authority. A city that likes haunted hotels, waterfront noise, and suspiciously theatrical rooms also helped crown a new king of stage magic. Honestly, that tracks. (The Laundry)
Kellar’s farewell matters because it shows how magic history is often less tidy than the posters make it look. It is business, ego, equipment, route books, timing, charm, panic, and the old performer staring down the curtain with the horrible knowledge that someone else gets the applause next. Baltimore got that moment. Not because it was quaint, but because it was a serious theatre city with serious audiences and a taste for spectacle, and that appetite has not entirely gone away.
Sports
The Orioles host the Washington Nationals at Camden Yards all weekend: Friday, June 26 at 7:05 PM, Saturday, June 27 at 7:05 PM, and Sunday, June 28 at 1:35 PM. This is useful information if you are planning dinner, parking, downtown movement, or your emotional relationship with orange clothing.
Weather
Friday looks mostly cloudy with showers and a heavy afternoon thunderstorm possible, high near 87 and low near 71. Saturday looks humid with thick cloud cover and possible showers and thunderstorms, high near 85 and low near 71. Sunday starts cloudy, then sunshine returns, with a high near 90 and low near 72. Forecasts can change, especially when thunderstorms are involved, because weather is just theater with worse lighting.
Bring an umbrella, check the latest forecast before heading out, and remember that Poe’s Magic Theatre is indoors, air-conditioned, and not dependent on the Blue Angels, rainfall, or the civic mood of a cloud.
Until next week,
Vince Wilson
