Everyone claims not to believe, right up until the salt goes over the shoulder, or the hand reaches for wood without the owner quite deciding to do it. Bradley Barefoot has spent years collecting these small private rituals, the ones people perform constantly and never admit to.

Superstitions work through the older and stranger business underneath the habits. Why thirteen still unsettles a room. What a broken mirror was originally meant to cost. Then Barefoot does something considerably harder to account for: thoughts read, choices predicted before they are made, outcomes waiting in places nobody put them.

Bring your skepticism (it will not help, but bring it anyway).
